The Great depression, which happened between 1929-1939, was one of the most detrimental and devastating events that happened in history. It came about because of the Stock market crash in 1929. This soon led to hyperinflation and many people especially investors started to panic and sell all their stocks and shares. This led to a huge number of unemployed people, especially young people who had just finished school with no work experience. Many people were starving and people roamed the streets looking for jobs or any scraps of food. Although for many people it was a devastating time, for the Nazis it was a breakthrough. They used this time of hardship to their advantage and used propaganda to gain support. Hitler gave the people hope and told them that he â€Å"would make Germany great again†. Although no one had initially taken any interest in Hitler they started to pay attention as they were desperate and they turned to him as their last resort. Even though this was a turni ng point, many people would argue that in hindsight, that there were other events that happened around that time, that were more significant as a turning point for the Nazi party, such as Hitler becoming Chancellor. However the great depression also had a huge effect on the people of Germany; it changed their lives in multiple ways.
